Organizational Setting and Reporting Relationships:

The position will report directly to the Creative Director, UN Pavilion at Expo 2020, as part of the Outreach Division in the Department of Global Communications. The Exhibit Designer will work closely with the Creative Director to realize the vision for the UN Pavilion for Expo 2020, as part of the UN system of UN75 assets, and contribute to a concept design package for the UN Pavilion including sketches and a plan.

This is a short-term contract of four weeks.

Responsibilities:

The Exhibit Designer will participate in one-two design workshops, and deliver a drawing set for a concept design package.

Specific duties will include, but are not limited to:

• Contribute to a concept design package for the UN Pavilion, namely sketches, plans, possibly sections and renderings, to convey the overall concept and major design elements of the UN Pavilion at Expo2020 Dubai;

• Contribute to design workshops with the UN Pavilion team and the Expo2020 team and demonstrate a sound understanding of the vision and intent of the UN Pavilion at Expo2020 as part of UN75;

• Liaise with the Expo2020 Dubai-based design team on the development of the design into a 3D model and working drawings;

• Perform other duties as required by the Creative Director of the UN at Expo 2020.

Competencies:

Professionalism:

• 10 years of experience as exhibition designer or as designer in exhibition-related field;

• Experience in all phases of the design process from conception through construction to opening;

• A portfolio that includes thoughtful, creative, innovative, and aesthetically sophisticated solutions to complex design problems;

• Outstanding drawing skills and 3D spatial awareness;

• Experience in CAD-based design solutions and mixed physical-digital environmental design;

• Demonstrate curiosity about social, cultural and environmental issues and the way people navigate the material;

• Background in exhibition, architecture, theatrical design, or industrial design;

• Extensive experience in working collaboratively with a team of designers, content staff and graphic designers, writers, and digital media producers to create highly creative and innovative exhibits and experiences;

• Understanding of UN policies and programmes; shows pride in work and in achievements; demonstrates professional competence and mastery of subject matter; is conscientious and efficient in meeting commitments, observing deadlines and achieving results; is motivated by professional rather than personal concerns; shows persistence when faced with difficult problems or challenges; remains calm in stressful situations; takes responsibility for incorporating gender perspectives and ensuring the equal participation of women and men in all areas of work.

Planning & Organizing:

• Develops clear goals that are consistent with agreed strategies; identifies priority activities and assignments; adjusts priorities as required; allocates appropriate amount of time and resources for completing work; foresees risks and allows for contingencies when planning; monitors and adjusts plans and actions as necessary; uses time efficiently.

Accountability:

• Takes ownership of all responsibilities and honours commitments; delivers outputs for which one has responsibility within prescribed time, cost and quality standards; operates in compliance with organizational regulations and rules; supports subordinates, provides oversight and takes responsibility for delegated assignments; takes personal responsibility for his/her own shortcomings and those of the work unit, where applicable.

Qualifications:

Education: University Degree in exhibit design, architecture, theatrical design, or industrial design;

Experience: 5 years of relevant experience in exhibit design, creative and content design, design, interactive installations for UN and/or international organizations and/or private sector;

Language: Fluency in English, (both oral and written) is required; knowledge of Arabic is an asset. Knowledge of another UN official language is an advantage.
