Background:
The UN is marking its 75th anniversary at a time of great disruption for the world, compounded by an unprecedented global health crisis with severe economic and social impacts. Will we emerge stronger and better equipped to work together? Or will distrust and isolation grow further? 2020 must be a year of dialogue, when we come together to discuss our priorities as a human family, and how we can build a better future for all.
Covid-19 is a stark reminder of the need for cooperation at both at national level and across the borders, sectors and generations. Our response will determine how fast the country and world recovers, whether we achieve the Sustainable Development Goals, and how well we handle pressing challenges: from the climate crisis to pandemics, inequalities, new forms of violence, and rapid changes in technology and in our population.
In Pakistan, we plan to reach out and engage people from all sectors by holding dialogues and conversations across the country. The aim is to is reach the larger population and listen to their hopes and fears; and to learn from their experiences.
A. Scope of Work:
Under the overall guidance and supervision of Communications Specialist Consultant, The Consultant will be required to assist and support implementing the following:
Share the survey with national networks and work with national and local influencers to promote it to new constituencies. The survey link to be shared with UN agencies ‘partner networks, Diplomatic community, national and regional media, private school networks and civil society.
- Organising e a series of online (and physical where possible) discussions, tagged under the UN75 hashtag to understand the challenges and aspirations of groups that are typically left behind, including children, women, elderly, persons with disabilities, migrants, religious minorities, people living with HIV, victims of human trafficking, transgenders and refugees.
- Tagged under the UN75, organizing events like debate sessions, talk shows (physical & online) engaging people from all walks of like, particularly youth, media, govt. civic society to generate discussions on how we want to shape our future. Debates and discussions to be focused on SDGs / priority areas of UN’s work in Pakistan like, education, climate crisis, inequalities, gender equality, food security, health, social protection etc.,
- Partnering with media networks – print, broadcast and radio – to boost the outreach of UN75. All proposed media partnerships will have UN75 survey to their core.
- Engaging and partnering with existing youth projects with UN agencies and other national youth networks to organise dialogues to answer the three essential questions:
- What kind of future do we want?
- What are five key priorities and targets we would like to set for our future?
- What actions are needed to achieve targets and closing the gaps?
Through these networks also to encourage groups to organise their own dialogues using the UN 75 toolkit
- Engaging national UN goodwill ambassadors to and amplify the UN 75 message and survey through Twitter, Facebook conversations, video messages, hosting Instagram stories.
With the current situation around COVID-19 and all events and gatherings are not happening at large yet. It would be effective to tap into the digital space to organise a series of online events to hear people tell us the future they want, with the help of partners like Twitter and Facebook and youth partners to reach out to the vast youth population. Using the UN75 toolkit, UN Pakistan would organise digital conversations in cities across the country using social media influencers, bloggers, UNCT, show biz personalities , parliamentarians around questions :
- What kind of future do we want?
- What are five key priorities and targets we would like to set for our future?
- What actions are needed to achieve targets and closing the gaps?
Using the opportunity of UN events to promote UN75 survey and highlighting the UN 75. Key events during this period are UN Day, Human Rights Day, and to link with those that are organised by individual agencies.
Develop new products or update existing (from Trello board) communications products for outreach of the UN 75 messaging the key audiences. Manage greater visibility and outreach of the UN 75 messaging on UN social channels and website.
Institutional Arrangement
a) Reporting to the UN 75 Communication Specialist.
b) Provide support to work closely with other communication Specialist in RCO, and will liaise with relevant UN agencies, and relevant Government institutes.
c) This is a home-based assignment with frequent visit to relevant UN Offices, government offices and educational institutes etc.,
d) Occasional outstation travel would be required and all the travel costs for official visits will be covered by RCO.
F. Duration of the Work
This Contract will be for 4 months, 20 September 2020 through 20 Jan 2021
G. Duty Station
a) The Contractor will be based in Karachi, Lahore, Peshawar, Quetta and GB/AJK (One at each location).
b) Contractor would be required to report as and when required by the Head of RCO
H. Qualifications of the Successful Individual Contractor
a) Minimum Bachelor’s Degree in social sciences with minimum 1 year of relevant work experience
b) Work experience with coordination, government, NGOs, academia UN and/or international development-oriented organization and national institutions is desirable.
c) Excellent coordination, presentation skills
