Virtual Reality Project Assistant
I. Background Information
With the recent COVID-19 experience of virtual meetings, the benefits of exploring remote methods for briefing the Security Council and other Member States as well and engaging in innovative storytelling of DPPA’s work are gaining new attention. The Innovation Cell has built on the 2019 experience of the 360-video on Iraq to produce 360-videos on both Yemen and the SG’s Report on the State of Global Peace and Security, integrating data visualization and mixed reality to advance situational awareness and advocacy.
In 2021, the Innovation Cell is planning to direct and support the production of at least three (3) new Virtual Reality (VR) experiences, on the work of the UN missions. The aim is to continue the production of immersive videos that can be used to brief the UN Member States and public audiences, which would contribute to advocacy on the peace and security agenda and visibility of the significant role of the UN in this context. The project will also explore the use of VR as a part of dialogue processes, applying insights from intergroup neuroscience in the design of a virtual negotiation and dialogue space to be used for remote consultation between conflict parties.
