The German Red Cross (GRC) is part of a worldwide community assisting victims of conflicts and disasters and people affected by social or health related crises.
The Red Cross / Red Crescent Movement provides vulnerable people with assistance without discrimination as to nationality, race, religious beliefs, class or political opinions and adheres to the seven Fundamental Principles of the Movement: Humanity,
Impartiality, Neutrality, Independence, Voluntary Service, Unity and Universality. The German Red Cross assists in disaster response, rehabilitation and capacity building projects internationally on appeals of their sister organisations within the Movement.
GRC is currently seeking an experienced Project Manager Relief/Disaster Management for an ECHO funded Project in support of the victims of a recent cyclone “Roanu” in Bangladesh.
Duration: for 6 months starting as soon as possible
Location: Dhaka and Hatiya Island (project location)
Responsibilities and Tasks:
The Project Manager is working under the leadership of the GRC Head of Office (HoO) in Bangladesh and in close cooperation with the Bangladesh Red Crescent Society (BDRCS) covering the key tasks and responsibilities set out below:
- Manage the implementation of the project funded by ECHO.
- Prepare a detailed work plan, timely implement planned activities in close coordination with the partners and other stakeholders and in accordance with the agreed project documents and donor requirements.
- Produce adequate monitoring and project reports in cooperation with the project staff.
- Ensure donor compliance in reporting and documentation.
- Manage budgets in line with GRC and ECHO regulations.
- Manage project staff in Hatiya.
- Coordinate activities and approaches with other Red Cross Societies working in DM
- Liaise and maintain a close working relationship with relevant partners.
- Management of further GRC projects after the first phase of the above mentioned project.
Apart from the above mentioned tasks, the Delegate will also cover other tasks upon request by the Head of Office.
Required Skills:
- Experienced Project Manager with a minimum 2 years of professional experience in the field of Relief/DM
- Experience in managing donor funded projects, experience with ECHO is a strong asset
- Strong project management skills, particularly PCM and participatory methods
- Strong reporting skills
- Experience in implementing and managing donor funded projects
- Readiness to work in remote areas
- Experience in training and guiding local community volunteers and the project team in a participatory way
- Knowledge of Red Cross / Red Crescent principles and willingness to adhere to them
- Skills in negotiation and persuasion, advocacy and for mainstreaming new concepts and approaches
- Assertive, with high intercultural sensitivity
- Ability to complete a thorough medical screening process 'working abroad under specific climate and health conditions'
- Excellent written and oral English; knowledge of German is an asset
- Excellent computer skills (Windows 7, spreadsheets, word-processing, databases, SPSS and other programmes)
GRC offers you a compensation package according to the collective employment agreement of the GRC as well as an expatriation allowance during your mission. Depending on the post specific situation we either provide you with an accommodation or a personal allowance to cover your accommodation. In addition to a full insurance package (health insurance for residence abroad, private accident insurance, private liability insurance, luggage insurance) GRC is as well covering a home flight withing a 12-month period of assignment and medical check-ups before and after your mission. Before your assignment you will benefit from a comprehensive training package and receive briefings prior as well as during and after your mission.
