If you are passionate about inclusive education and want to share your expertise in deaf education with VSO’s global team, this volunteer role is for you. As a Deaf Education Technical Specialist, you will provide technical support in developing deaf education curricula, early identification of hearing impairment and contribute to the professional development of teachers in using sign language as a bilingual approach.
The ideal candidate will have significant experience developing deaf education training courses for teachers and education programmes for deaf children and their families. She/he will also have research experience in delivering deaf education in low-income/developing countries.
Experience and skills
• Relevant degree in social science, development studies or related subject.
• Significant experience of developing curricula for teacher training courses on deaf education- early support and education for children who are deaf and their families, bi-lingual pedagogies.
• Experience of developing blended professional development courses for teachers.
• Experience of training of teachers, also on Universal Design for Learning (UDL).
• Experience of undertaking research on deaf education in low-income settings.
• Understanding and experience in sign language.
• Good communication skills: ability to work in a team.
• Respect and commitment to volunteering for development as VSO’s core development methodology.
This is a remote volunteer role for about 10 hours per week over a period of 1 year.
