Scope of work:
Regular visits to the areas where WASH emergencies occur and responding to these emergencies through:
Rehabilitations and drilling of new boreholes - liaising with the community leaders, carrying out assessments to establish sites for new water points, writing assessment reports about field trips, preparing plan for rehabilitation/drilling with supervision from the WASH Technician,
Borehole and other water scheme repairs - carrying out repairs of boreholes and other water schemes (mini-water Yards and SWAT) with support from the WASH Technician (fixing of bolts, bearings, replacement of pipes, correcting leakages in unions),
Assisting in upgrading boreholes to mini or full water yards - supervision of excavators of the distribution lines, reporting the progress of the work seen at the site, supporting WASH Technician in taking tools to the site, supervision of casuals and local pump mechanics during dismantling and installation of hand pumps (boreholes),
Assisting in setting up Surface Water Treatment plants (SWATs) - construction of the collection point, erecting bladder tanks basement and monitoring the chlorinators,
Constructing emergency latrines and rehabilitating existing institutional latrines;
Documentation and monitoring of water infrastructure/water point mapping – documentation of any WASH technical work done in the community;
Assisting in water quality testing and analysis – ensuring that all repaired boreholes are checked and chlorinated before installation of the pump,
Facilitating appropriate community involvement in the design and delivery of essential WASH services and facilities,
Cooperation with local authorities and local communities,
Cooperation with WASH Technicians in planning and implementation of proper WASH response in targeted areas,
Cooperation with local pump mechanics to ensure sustainability of the project,
Maintaining an accurate record and taking proper care of all field equipment and material stocks for the WASH ER Team
Keeping proper records of field expenditures and reporting accordingly,
Assisting in writing reports from carried out interventions,
Translating project documents into vernacular/Arabic when required
Minimum required experience & qualifications:
• At least an Advanced Certificate in Plumbing or equivalent
• Minimum of 2 years WASH Experience
• Minimum of 2 years emergency/humanitarian experience
• Good command of written and spoken English
• At least 2 years of experience in similar activities in the past will be an asset
Language skills:
• Proficiency in English
• Knowledge of Arabic will be an added advantage FӪQ{%s$$SU
