The German Red Cross (GRC) is part of a worldwide community assisting victims of conflicts and disasters and people affected by social or health related crises. The Red Cross / Red Crescent Movement provides vulnerable people with assistance without discrimination as to nationality, race, religious beliefs, class or political opinions and adheres to the seven Fundamental Principles of the Movement: Humanity, Impartiality, Neutrality, Independence, Voluntary Service, Unity and Universality. GRC assists in disaster response, rehabilitation and capacity building projects internationally on appeals of their sister organisations within the Movement.
We are currently seeking an experienced Programme Coordinator to implement the Programme of GRC and Swiss Red Cross (SRC) in Egypt. The Programme Coordinator will be based in Cairo, Egypt, in the premises of the Egypt Red Crescent. The position requires field visits and international travel.
Duration: starting as soon as possible for one year
Location: Cairo, Egypt
Responsibilities and Tasks:
- To manage the projects of the GRC/SRC programme in accordance with approved plans, regulations and policies
- To ensure full compliance with donor requirements in reporting (narrative and financial)
- To provide project documents (project synopsis/concept paper, result based project plan, full project proposal, project budget, project agreement with partner, regular reports) in line with GRC/SRC rules
- To ensure effective coordination with other stakeholders for the planning and implementation of the projects
- To support building capacities with implementing partners in order to improve capacities to respond and to work in joint projects respecting the special role of volunteers
- Supervise and assist local staff
- To cooperate and liaise with Red Cross/ Red Crescent movement partners and external stakeholders
- To support GRC Regional Office in needs assessment and strategic planning
Required Skills:
- Excellent programme coordination and project management skills
- Working experience in the humanitarian and development field
- Willingness to work in a complex and dynamic environment
- Proven financial management skills
- Excellent communication skills, resolution skills and intercultural sensitivity, including managing expectations of different stakeholders in a balanced and diplomatic manner
- Proven abilities in decision making and problem solving- to foresee various options and objectively assess viability to these options
- Experience in working with the Red Cross / Res Crescent Movement
- Good Knowledge of Red Cross / Red Crescent principles and full compliance with them
- Donor-Experience (communication and reporting requirements)
- Excellent language skills in English (oral and written)
- Command of Arabic language is an asset
- Computer literacy (MS-Office, spreadsheet- and word-processing, fundspro)
- Regional expertise is an asset
- Awareness and acceptance of the risks associated with this mission
- Experience in working in a difficult and volatile security situation and good stress management
- Excellent physical and mental health with the ability to complete a thorough medical screening process
GRC offers you a compensation package according to the collective employment agreement of the GRC as well as an expatriation allowance during your mission. In addition to a full insurance package (health insurance for residence abroad, private accident insurance, private liability insurance, luggage insurance) GRC is covering a home flight withing a 12-month period of assignment and medical check-ups before and after your mission.
