PAH in South Sudan:
PAH has been working in South Sudan since 2006 as one of the first INGOs established in Jonglei State. We are a small team of committed individuals aiming at delivering tangible and sustainable change in the largest, most populous and most conflicted states of South Sudan. Our Emergency Response Team (ERT) has been delivering assistance across the country over the last 7 years. Thanks to the expertise gathered over the years, we were also appointed as WASH Cluster State Focal point in Jonglei and we are part of Strategic Advisory Group for both WASH and Shelter NFIs. We coordinate WASH, Shelter NFI, FSL emergency responses with partners and hence make sure all vulnerable communities are served at the time of crisis.
Job Purpose:
The principal objective of the Psychosocial Support Officer is to delivery of quality psychosocial support (PSS) activities to children, women, community leaders, youth, community members in a timely and efficient manner for PAH’s integrated protection programs.
The successful candidate will additionally build the capacity of PAH programme teams and partners to effectively provide psychosocial support and integrate protection at both planning and programme implementation level. S/he will guide the protection officers and the protection team leader.
Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
· Contribute to the strengthening of policy, legislative framework and protection systems for preventing and responding to violence, abuse and exploitation of vulnerable persons.
· Support the maintenance of an effective and confidential case management system.
· Develop professional, effective and appropriate psychosocial support programming, including individual and group support (specifically in GBV and child support).
· Supports the strengthening of protection coordination mechanisms for responding to protection needs of affected persons by conflict and emergencies.
· Develop and ensure implementation of psychosocial support that is responsive to the needs of women, girls, men, and boys.
· Team with partner counterparts to exchange and share information on protection project implementation and status as well as movement and distribution of supplies.
· Collect and analyze data on trends and work with partners, PAH project teams to disseminate information to all relevant stakeholders to develop responses.
· Critical exploration of evidence for establishing and maintaining therapeutic relationships.
· Assist with preparing all relevant reports regarding PAH psychosocial support.
· Ensure timely implementation of psychosocial programming support.
· Monitor and supervise case management and personalization.
· Family work/intervention.
· Mediation management.
· Motivational interviewing.
· Provide guidance regarding psychosocial support to all project team and partners to ensure all programme activities meet best practice standard
PERSON SPECIFICATION
Qualifications and Experience:
Essential:
· Bachelor Degree in Social Sciences, Psychology, or Counseling with related work experience;
· Experience in protection programming, programme management, capacity development, and Community Based Psychosocial Support (particularly in sectors of Education, WASH, Shelter NFI)
· Excellent knowledge of Child Protection and GBV minimum standards and basic principles
· Excellent knowledge of psychosocial support basic principles and PSS key messages to vulnerable children and caregivers
· Excellent knowledge of child and adult development and learning
· Ability to promote the values of equality, non-discrimination, and human rights for all.
· Ability to communicate in a highly professional manner with survivors, community members and professional partners.
· Analytical, problem-solving skills and comfortable working under minimal supervision;
· Strong background in training and capacity building of local staff and community members;
· Ability to find solutions to complex problems in a challenging environment
· Excellent planning and organizational skills;
· Excellent written and spoken English communication skills;
· Strong computer skills particularly Microsoft Office;
· Willingness to work across South Sudan in remote locations;
· Flexible, ability to work both as an individual and as a team member and under stress in what can be a harsh environment;
· Willingness to assume additional responsibilities as requested by the immediate supervisor.
