Polish Humanitarian Action is looking for a Head of Programmes in HQ (Warsaw)

Polish Humanitarian Action (PAH) is a non-governmental organization employing people who want to make the world a better place. For over 20 years, we have been providing relief in big and small emergencies worldwide alongside with running missions in several countries in crisis. Our interventions of both humanitarian and development character have been carried out in 49 countries so far. We concentrate on ensuring sustainable and stable development of regions suffering consequences of war and/or natural disasters. We possess long-standing expertise in Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH), but also implement projects in Food Security and Livelihoods (FSL), as well as Shelter, Nutrition and Education. Job summary:

The main goal of this role is development of programmes on our missions through designing and implementing new strategic and operational plans. The post holder will be also responsible for overseeing all aspects of projects implementation, project quality improvement, donor relations and development of the projects’ staff.

Core responsibilities:

  • Lead Head of Programmes and Project Coordinators on our missions in the area of designing and implementing humanitarian programmes/projects;
  • Review the overall direction and strategy of the programmes and projects implementation;
  • Formulate and update the rules and procedures related to projects/programme coordination;
  • Design recommendations and provide guidance in project quality improvement process;
  • Identify sources for programme financing;
  • Provide support in preparing project proposals in coordination with projects’ staff;
  • Represent the organization and give presentations related to programmatic areas of the mission and organization during external meetings;
  • Liaise with donors, auditors and other relevant stakeholders;
  • Design and conduct internal trainings for the projects’ staff;
  • Support the job performance evaluation and recruitment processes of the programme and project staff;
  • Perform any other duties as may be assigned.

Requirements:

  • Well-grounded knowledge of the humanitarian coordination system;
  • Master’s degree (in relevant field will be a big asset);
  • At least 2 years experience in coordinating humanitarian projects;
  • At least 2 years experience in managing programmes in complex emergency situations;
  • Proven experience in writing project proposals to institutional donors (e.g. ECHO; OFDA)
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English (at least C1)
  • Sound team management skills (experience in remote management will be an asset);
  • Ability to travel and work in insecure environments;
  • Strong communication, presentation and organizational skills;
  • Strong computer skills (MS Word, Excel, Outlook and Power Point)
