Ireland: Inclusive education expert (International volunteer)

  1. Coordination: Coordinate project activities with other stakeholders, including MoE, development partners and volunteers. Engage in high level sector coordination meetings, ensuring that inclusion is promoted across the education sector and the reform agenda.
  2. Policy analysis: Conduct an inclusion policy gap analysis for the Myanmar education system, identifying policy gaps and potential areas for research. Provide technical support through an inclusion lens for teacher education reforms, including the 4-year teacher education curriculum; the Teacher Competency Standards Framework; teaching practice guides.
  3. Technical support on inclusion: provide overall technical support and guidance on effective inclusion policy and practice to all aspects of the project. Support a team of volunteers based in Education Colleges, schools and communities to lead a range of inclusion initiatives. Support pilot initiatives including a disability screeni ng programme and the establishment of inclusion ‘beacon’ schools in to promote effective inclusion policy and practice at school level. Advise the MoE on inclusion standards for national programmes, policies and plans.
  4. Capacity building: support Education Colleges and partner schools to establish Continuing Professional Development (CPD) strategies and incorporate inclusion into CPD programmes. Help develop specialist inclusion modules and resources for CPD, and ensure that principles of inclusion are embedded across all aspects of CPD including English. Support training and mentoring to Teacher Educators and advise on action research projects on barriers to learning. Build capacity of a core group of MoE staff on inclusive education and develop a handbook with guidelines and standards for mainstreaming inclusion. Support the proposed National Centre for Teacher Professional Development (NCTPD) to establish quality standards to support CPD on inclusion. Voluntee rs will also help facilitate international study tours for MoE officials and ‘Inclusion Champions’ (selected Teacher Educators and teachers) to learn about inclusion policy and practice.
  5. Knowledge sharing: Support the building of a stronger evidence base on effective inclusive education policy and practice in Myanmar. Hold stakeholder fora and policy reflection meetings on inclusion and emerging issues from CPD initiatives, EC Curriculum, establishment of inclusion ‘beacon’ schools, disability screening pilot, and other inclusion initiatives emerging from the project.
